Khris O’Brien received an unusual request last November when she was approached by the Milwaukee County Zoo. The patient was a three-year-old bonobo named Noelle. “I have treated children for 35 years so it wasn’t that big of a stretch,” O’Brien said. “Honestly, when I saw this poor, sick, basically, child lying on the gurney, I went into ‘I’ve got to help her’ mode. Nancy Caldwell learned about the COPD Foundation’s Harmonicas for Health program after reading an article about it, and was inspired to bring it to her patients. “It sounded kind of fun so I thought we would give it a try,” Caldwell said. The program kicked off in March, and the group has already given a performance at a local restaurant.
